Tax Manager - Rolls Royce, London

We have an exciting opportunity available for a Tax Manager to join Rolls-Royce & Partners Finance Limited (RRPF) a joint venture company between Rolls-Royce PLC and GATX Corporation comprising of 19 joint venture entities in the UK, 18 entities in the US, 2 in Malaysia, and 1 in China.

RRPF is one the largest spare engine lessors in the world, leasing civil aircraft engines to airlines around the world. In 2015, RRPF also started a serviceable used parts business which has grown significantly. Despite the inquires of COVID-19, we have aspiring plans to continue to grow this business and are well placed to do so.

The Finance team manages the business planning, accounting, reporting and tax for all the entities. It is also responsible for the communication of financial performance to its shareholders.

Joining RRPF, you will be part of a dynamic and fast-moving finance team, within a very agile business, whose primary goals are to ensure and improve financial and management reporting, to ensure all compliance obligations are met and to be effective and trusted business partners to the wider business team. This is a wholistic role covering various aspects of tax and you will be instrumental in shaping and implementing RRPF’s Tax Management Strategy. You will generally work very closely with the Senior Finance Manager and report to the Finance Director.

The size and structure of the organisation means that you could work alongside and communicate with senior management daily.

What you will be doing:
  • Become tax subject matter expert for our business, take care of the tax business processes and to assist the wider business with tax advice on transactions and wider projects.
  • Compliance – Take care of RRPF’s UK and international tax compliance processes ensuring that all compliance deadlines are met.
  • Expectation is that the Tax Manager will undertake some of the work in-house and ensure external advisers elsewhere and work together with the wider finance team.
  • Finance & statutory reporting – Support the wider business in ensuring tax accounting is prepared timely for group reporting and to provide input for disclosures in financial statements.
  • Business Partnering – Assist the wider business in providing and coordinating tax advice to support transactions and projects.
  • Technical knowledge management – Ensure that in-house tax knowledge is built up and kept updated covering UK (for example long funding leases, CIR rules) and international tax (withholding tax issues).
  • Processes – Take care of tax process manuals covering compliance, VAT, Intrastat and to keep them updated, and to be the risk mentor for tax risks.
  • Tax Governance – Take care of SAO reporting and to guide senior management around and to monitor current and emerging tax risks such as DAC6 reporting, BEPS.

Who we are looking for:

  • With 4-5 years post-qualification experience in a tax manager role in advisory or compliance.
  • Excellent UK tax technical knowledge including tax accounting.
  • Experience in international tax rules and frameworks and experience of advising international transactions.
  • Excellent general accounting knowledge and comfortable dealing with multi GAAP environment and US GAAP experience will be beneficial.
  • Able to identify and communicate key risks when business partnering and to able to tailor advice and support and to mitigate those risks accordingly.
  • Excellent Excel, Powerpoint and other MS Office skills.
  • Demonstrable excellent financial modelling skills will be a plus.
  • Excellent written skills and able to distil accurately the “story behind the numbers”.
  • Excellent team-working, communication skills, commercially astute, can-do attitude and attention to detail.
  • Working awareness / knowledge of US tax regulations will be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of Sun Systems, Hyperion, Salesforce, and accounts production software (such as Thomson Reuters AP) a plus.
  • Leasing industry experience and/or interest in aviation and the airline industry also a plus.
  • Qualified chartered tax accountant (CTA) or chartered accountant (CA, ACA or ACCA).
