Finance Controller (Education) - Manager, KMPG - Dubai

Job position overview:

We are seeking an experienced Finance Controller with a background in the education sector to oversee all financial aspects of our educational institution. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, extensive knowledge of financial management principles, and a proven track record of successful financial oversight within educational settings.

Responsibilities:

Financial Planning and Analysis:

  • Develop and implement financial plans, budgets, and forecasts aligned with the institution's strategic objectives.
  • Conduct regular financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
  • Provide insightful recommendations to senior management based on financial analysis and projections.

Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and accounting standards specific to the education sector.
  • Present financial reports to the board of directors and other stakeholders as required.

Budget Management:

  • Manage the institution's budgeting process, including allocation of funds to various departments and programs.
  • Monitor budget performance and implement corrective actions as necessary to ensure financial targets are met.
  • Work closely with department heads to develop and track departmental budgets.

Risk Management:

  • Identify financial risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Implement internal controls and procedures to safeguard the institution's assets and ensure financial integrity.
  • Stay abreast of regulatory changes and industry trends that may impact financial operations.

Cash Flow Management:

  • Monitor cash flow and liquidity to ensure the institution meets its financial obligations.
  • Optimise cash management strategies to maximise returns and minimise risks.
  • Coordinate with treasury management and banking partners as needed.

Audit and Compliance:

  • Coordinate with internal and external auditors to facilitate audits and ensure compliance with audit requirements.
  • Address any audit findings and implement recommendations for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and contractual obligations.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field. MBA or CPA/CA/ACCA preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Finance Controller or similar role within the education sector.
  • Thorough understanding of accounting principles and financial management best practices.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and trends.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Advanced proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and compliance standards specific to educational institutions.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and a track record of driving results in a complex organisational environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, such as SAP or Oracle.
  • Knowledge of grant accounting and funding mechanisms in the education sector.
  • Familiarity with fundraising and donor management processes.
  • Certification such as Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) is a plus
