Job description

The Supervisor - Satellite Desk will oversee, guide, and supervise the work of the satellite desk in terms of booking accuracy, route & supplier preferences, maintaining cost effectiveness, and following AJMN's policies and procedures.

You'll be helping to put the best content to air within our busy newsroom environment, working to tight deadlines and strict budgets. So, you can expect to cost, book and coordinate resources from around the world including crews, satellite facilities and circuits. You'll also coordinate coming and scheduled services as well as managing outside source and port usage in cooperation with senior editorial and technical staff. On the theme of staff liaison, you will also advise the senior output figure on potential conflicts in the use of outside sources.

You'll bring excellent organisational and time management skills alongside well-honed interpersonal skills, which will be partly demonstrated by your ability to forge exceptional working relationships. These will also be apparent in your ability to communicate effectively with our Newsroom team, especially when updating on progress and clarifying production requirements.

You'll demonstrate editorial awareness alongside an understanding of news and Al Jazeera Arabic priorities. This understanding will be complimented by your strong interest in new media and technology, especially in applying your information management ability within these areas. Naturally, you'll be fluent in English, but you will also need to be fluent in either Arabic languages.

Specific responsibilities

• Oversee the work of the sat desk across the networks
• Negotiate agreements with new & current 3rd party providers on preferential rates & preferential routes
• Ensure all facilities activity and cost is accurately recorded in the company resource management and booking system and provide accurate regular reports for Operations & Finance
• Leading role in the development and maintaining of the companies resource management system
• Maintain effective relationship with internal and external key stakeholders used in the provision of news gathering
• Leading a team and ensuring the correct workflow with all parties as well as accuracy of satellite routes
• Liaising with Head of Section on new policies & new procedures
• Training & induction of new staff joining the sat desk
• Report on staff performance
• Supervise staff roster, leave, overtime
• Audit all invoices, payment approval & allocation of costs
• Assign staff to mission in agreement with higher management

Minimum qualifications and Experience required:

• Bachelor's Degree in Media and Journalism, Communications, Broadcast Operations, or related field Diploma
• Minimum of 8 years experience working in television or media environment
